This category includes the Western idea of the air element. It is the force of gravity and the minerals within the earth.

Metal has structure, but it can also accept a new form when molten.
Metal energy is consolidating and with inward movement. Like the season of Autumn with which it is associated, the Metal element shows the cycle of energy turning full circle as it begins to decline and fall. The rotting and decompositon of the foliage give way to new growth in the following Spring putting nutrients and minerals back into the soil and providing a rich basis for new life. Letting go of the old and taking in of the new, the two organ systems of the Metal Element are The Lung and Large Intestine. Breathing air, taking in new ideas for the mind and the spirit is not only essential for growth, but also inspirational. We cannot live without the the Qi Energy, the breath from the heavens.

Connection, respect and loss are words that create an understanding of the Metal Element. When we feel the divine spark of connection and respect in our spirit, we then are able to feel value and worth within ourselves.

Qi (pronounced “chee”) is sometimes translated as “vital energy”, “life force” or “life energy” runs through the body like rivers on our planet.  This model of medical practice is based upon the universal laws of Nature. When Qi is flowing smoothly there is balance. When it is not flowing smoothly, there may arise symptoms and illness. Acupuncture treats the underlying imbalances rather than only the symptoms. Treatment now can prevent later symptoms.

"We can never sneer at the stars, mock the dawn or scoff at the totality of being. Sublime grandeur evokes unhesitating, unflinching awe. Away from the immense, cloistered in our own concepts, we may scorn and revile everything. But standing between earth and sky, we are silenced by the sight...." - Abraham Heschel
